When you ask someone, what is yoga? The
answer you will get from 85% of the people will be about some physical poses,
exercises or stretches. This is a great stereotype of yoga and to the yogis,
its rather depressing.
The word “yoga” its self has roots from an
ancient ganskrit language and it was as a result of the word “yuj” which means
union. So what exactly is joined? What’s this union?
According to most yoga practisers, it is a
union of the body, mind and soul. It is a science of science, a way of life.
Yoga is beyond just physical exercises or poses or all those stereotypes. It is
a science of life and it helps greatly for physical, mental, emotional and
spiritual growth. But is yoga really a science of life? A union of mind, body
and soul? A way of life?
Yoga is a step by step science for
self-realisation. It teaches how to proceed with life with wisdom, awareness,
and understanding. It’s a nurturing process; it makes you realise that it’s our
misperceptions and conditioned attitude that stand in the way of success.
When you practise yoga, you are lured into
choosing a certain lifestyle, healthy diet, nurturing relationships, and
constructive work. It teaches you not to take nothing on the emotional grounds
for granted. There are multiple yoga poses that benefit in millions of ways
including fat burning, improvement in fertility, and insomnia curing among
others.
So is yoga really yoga? I think you have
the answer now.
